Barry Melrose correctly makes the case that the Red Wings aren’t getting the props they deserve for breaking a 35-year-old home winning streak with 21 straight:

1. Today’s NHL doesn’t have any soft teams (Melrose cites the Caps from the 70s as an automatic win for the 20-game-streak Flyers)
2. Today’s NHL doesn’t have any soft goalies (Melrose points to the presence of more sub par goalies in the 70s)
3. The Red Wings are in the toughest division in the NHL right now, with three teams having over 70 points (no other division has more than one).

I don’t care if they’re from Detroit, rooting for the Red Wings in any capacity is like rooting for big insurance companies.
